The New City tour includes the modern sites of Jerusalem chosen from Supreme Court building, The stained glass windows at the synagogue at Hadassah Hospital, the Holocaust museum - Yad Vashem, which is the national memorial for Jews who perished in the Holocaust. On to Mount Herzl, the burial place of Golda Meir, Yitzhak Rabin and other leaders of the nation. The spectacular scale model of Second Temple Period Jerusalem, Knesset Israel's Parliament, Shrine of the Book and Israel Museum.
This tour includes a visit to Nazareth, the town where Jesus grew up. Here we visit the Church of the Annunciation. We continue across The Sea of Galilee area where we will tour the sites where Jesus was active such as Capernaum, Tabgha (Miracle of the Loaves and Fish) and Mt. of Beatitudes. We continue on to the city of Tiberias where the possibility of a lunch of St. Peter's fish and/or a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee awaits us. We return to our hotel in Jerusalem via the Jordan Valley.
Day 2 can be switched to day 1, and this is the Jewish part of the tour, including a visit to the excavated city of Beit Shean situated at the northern end of the Jordan Valley. Continue to Beit Alpha with its preserved 5th century synagogue zodiac mosaic. On to the city where the Kabalah developed, Safad with a visit to its ancient synagogues. Continue to the Golan Heights and view the Lake Kinnereth from the gorge. Return to Jerusalem.
We leave Jerusalem/Tel Aviv through the Judean Desert, and view the spectacular hanging Monastery of St. George in Wadi Qelt. We descend to the Syrian-African Rift Valley and Dead Sea and continue below sea level to the site of Qumran. Here we stop and see the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found and explore the site where some think they were written. Driving along the shores of the Dead sea (the lowest point on the face of the earth), we pass Ein Gedi a true oasis in the desert. At Masada we ascend the mountain via the cable car, visiting the truly amazing buildings and architecture of King Herod, including the synagogue, palaces and bath house. Where the heroic and tragic events happened 2000 years ago short while after the destruction of the Temple. From there to the Dead Sea itself for some "swimming" and application of "medicinal" mud. A the end of a fascinating and exhilarating day we return to your hotel.
Driving along the Via Maris (the ancient Way of the Sea), we stop off at Caesarea, the seaport built by King Herod the Great and the administrative capital of Roman Palestine. After touring the Theatre, Crusader City, Hippodrome and Aqueduct, we continue north to Haifa. Ascending Mount Carmel, we view the City, harbor, bay, Bahai Temple and Gardens from the Promenade. Driving across Haifa Bay to Acre, we tour the underground Crusader City and sours of this as yet largely undiscovered city.
You can also choose to visit Megiddo, the site of Biblical Armageddon, and Nazareth, the boyhood home of Jesus and the Church of the Annunciation.
In the morning visit Sde Boker a kibbutz in the desert where the first Israeli Prime Minister, David Ben Gurion lived last years of his life and where he and his wife Paula are buried. Continue to the spring Oasis of Ein Ovdat and the Canyon of Ein Akev. Visit the largest crater in the world Ramon Crater. Drive down to the bottom of the crater and see geological formations. Continue to the perfume road and silk route used by the Nabateans ancient tribes for trade from India to the Mediterranean ports. Visit the Nabatean ruins of the city of Moa which existed until the 5th century. Explore the amazing system of agriculture used the Nabateans in the desert.
Eilat, the southern city of Israel offers a variety of attractions. The Underwater Observatory built under the Red Sea in the middle of the Coral Reef. Explore the colorful sea life. Visit the near by tropical Coral Reef where you can dive. Eilat offers camel riding (short or long trips) and jeep tours in the mountains of Eilat. From Eilat you can cross into Sinai, Egypt or take a day trip to Petra - Jordan. A tour to Jordan requires advance booking.
